# Provenance checklist — Clubs, athletes & authenticators Item / project: ______________________ Date: __________ ## Before you start [ ] List the items to tag, most valuable or most at risk first [ ] Gather existing paperwork, photos and certificates for each item [ ] Decide what information is public, shared or private [ ] Choose tags: visible QR for discovery, secure NFC where authenticity matters ## Workflow [ ] Prepare tags before the event — Pre-register identities so tags can be applied quickly at signings or after matches. [ ] Capture live evidence — Photograph or film the signing or the item in use, and record date, event, location and witness. [ ] Apply tamper-evident NFC — Use tamper-evident secure tags that break if removed, so they cannot be moved to a fake. [ ] Issue to the fan or buyer — Transfer the record at the point of sale or giveaway, creating a primary-market chain of custody. [ ] Support the resale market — Let later buyers check the record and append their purchase, keeping the chain unbroken. ## Record for each item [ ] Event, date and location [ ] Photo or video of signing or use [ ] Witness or official issuer details [ ] Item type, size and identifying marks [ ] Authenticator opinion [ ] Every later change of ownership ## Toolkit to have ready [ ] Tamper-evident secure NFC tags [ ] Sewn-in or heat-applied tags for textiles [ ] On-metal tags for trophies and medals [ ] SmartLinks for issuing official identities at scale ## Check before you finish [ ] Tag is on a reversible, non-original surface and its position is noted [ ] Tag reads on at least one iPhone and one Android phone [ ] Tag is locked against rewriting [ ] Record opens from both the QR code and the NFC tag [ ] Private details are hidden from the public view Full guide: https://www.provenancestory.com/journeys/sports-clubs
